How do you use a Segway ?

Riding a Segway is just like riding a bike: you learn in a few minutes and never forget it. Come along and test these wonders of technology!!! We are waiting for you!!!

For riding a Segway, step on the small platform between the 2 wheels, holding the handle bar placed at the right height, just like with a baby scooter. Segway will deal with your balance (which reduces the risk of falling to a minimum) and will keep you balanced while you smoothly move (just like gliding), regardless of the surface (be it on the ground or in the street).

Authentic Travel uses the new models (i2), 2nd generation, launched in 2006, which are based on LeanSteer™ and InfoKey™ technologies, and make the Segway experience much better, making the trip more intuitive and adding some new features.

Segway is formed of a small platform that you step on, between 2 wheels, having in the middle a thin tall handle bar just like the baby scooter, with handles. Segway is held in static or dynamic equilibrium by a computer and by electric motors discretely placed under the platform.

For detecting handle movement, through which commands are given, gyroscopic sensors are used. This way, the computer knows in every moment the position and speed. According to the passenger's movement, the computer calculates what particular commands must be given to the motors, in such a way that the equilibrium is automatically re-established (with no passenger intervention).

For starting and advancing, the passenger must only slowly lean the handle forward; for steering, the handle must be slowly leaned right or left (just like a joystick). The maximum speed is about 20 km/h (12,5 miles/h).

Slowing down is obtained by pulling the handle backwards (towards you), without the need of hand brakes like in the case of bikes.

Every tour starts only after each person participating in the tour accomodates with using the segway, after being given a preparatory training and after signing the documents regarding safety and assuming the risks involved in riding a segway!!
