By leaving Braşov Depression behind with the old German localities, we take another route, by passing the mild peaks of Perşani Mountains and we are on our way to Ţara Făgăraşului (The Land of Făgăraşului), in order to enjoy one of the most beautiful alpine roads in Europe.
We reach Făgăraş Depression, where we are welcomed by a mountain scenery with peaks over 2000 metres and hills losing themselves in the river bed of River Olt's branches, a true amphitheatre laid over three levels of relief under the monumental Western slope of Făgăraş Mountains.
By following our route, we discover picturesque villages with houses of hard-working people having preserved and inherited ancient crafts, traditions, and customs from father to son. We will stop for a while at the ethnographic museum in Cârţişoara, where we will visit a peasant's household specific to this region, comprising furniture, a collection of icons, old photos with the national costumes, trousseaus, and ceramics crafted by the potters in the commune.
By leaving Cârţişoara Commune behind, we will go through a part of a road built in a military goal, linking the two historical regions of Transylvania and Vallachia: Transfăgărăşanul, the road at the highest altitude in Romania (2034 metres), close to Lake Bâlea, and 90 kilometres long.
The alpine road takes the traveller through dreamy landscapes, sometimes covered in snow even during summer. Due to weather conditions, Transfăgărăşanul is open only a few months a year, from July to October.
By climbing the serpentines in the beech and spruce forests, we will admire the famous waterfall of an extraordinary beauty, located at over 1200 metres and having a 60-metre fall, which marks the lower level of Bâlea glacial circuit.
By continuing to climb, the great image of Făgăraş Mountains' edges is revealed, while the winding road takes us to a natural reserve of incredible beauty, whose most important attraction is Bâlea glacial lake. On the small peninsula entering the lake, you can see Bâlea Chalet, unique in our mountains by its location, being an important tourist stop-over. In the winter, close to Lake Bâlea, there is an original ice hotel operating.
We end our journey by descending Transfăgărăşan and by taking a road close to the mountain feet - on our way to Braşov - in order to show you another traditional attraction – Vâltoarea de la Lisa –, more than 100 years old, a business inherited from father to son for over 5 generations.
"Authentic Travel" means for us the art of making tourism, which involves a deep and authentic connection to the people and places one meets, even if they pertain to a totally different culture. We understand that - out of a great desire to know - an extra-connection and an extra-communication appear, making it possible for two people not speaking the same language and not pertaining to the same culture to get along. This is why we propose a different type of tourism, a tourism of hearts and souls.
