This time we invite you to join us in discovering the highest mountains in Romania - Făgăraş Mountains, considered as the Transylvanian Alps, by Transfăgărăşan alpine road, the highest altitude road in Romania.
DAY 1. By leaving Braşov Depression, we enjoy the mild scenery of Perşani Mountains and we reach the superb region of Ţara Făgăraşului (The Land of Făgăraşului), filled with traditional Romanian picturesque settlements.
Starting from Cârţişoara, we take Transfăgărăşan, along Bâlea valley and, by following the winding road through the treed peaks, we pass Bâlea Waterfall (1234 metres). Along the way, we can admire the glacial threshold over which its waters fall noisily from a height of 60 metres. We go on to the road climbing in serpentines among the edges of Bâlii, Doamnei and Tunsului, and we reach one of the most beautiful glacial lakes – Lake Bâlea –, located at the altitude of 2034 metres.
After a short stop-over at Bâlea circus, in order to admire the view, we pass through the longest road tunnel in Romania (887 metres) and we get out of the tunnel on the Southern slope, and - after a succession of serpentines - we discover on the side of the road, in an extremely picturesque place, Capra Waterfall, welcoming us with the approximately 35 metre-height and with the coolness of its drops. The road follows then the course of Capra River, and then the shores of Lake Vidraru as we reach the impressive dam with the same name. Lake Vidraru offers the farther panorama of Făgăraş Mountains and the close sight of treed cliffs guarding and mirroring in the crystal water. We will enjoy this scenery and the silence offered until the next day.
DAY 2. From Vidraru Dam, we are going to Curtea de Argeş, locality still bearing the aura of the first capital of Vallachia. Here, we visit a place charged with spirituality and legend, that is Argeş Monastery, founded by ruler Neagoe Basarab.
We leave Curtea de Argeş and we are off to Câmpulung Muscel, known as the residence of the first ruler of Vallachia - Basarab I; from here, we go on the old trade road connecting Vallachia and Transylvania during the Middle Ages.
Before starting the spectacular descent on Rucăr-Bran couloir, we will turn a 20th century history page, at the Mausoleum of Heroes in Mateiaş.
Nature offers great and wonderful landscapes at every step, hummocks on which rustic settlements are scattered and on which sheep flocks stroll by. This couloir is one of the most charming regions in Romania, by sights and silence, being of a beauty that would justify the existence of a natural park. By crossing the picturesque Rucăr-Bran couloir, located between Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains, on the trans-Carpathian road connecting Braşov and Câmpulung Muscel, we return to Braşov.
"Authentic Travel" means for us the art of making tourism, which involves a deep and authentic connection to the people and places one meets, even if they pertain to a totally different culture. We understand that - out of a great desire to know - an extra-connection and an extra-communication appear, making it possible for two people not speaking the same language and not pertaining to the same culture to get along. This is why we propose a different type of tourism, a tourism of hearts and souls.
